Lost Hawaiian

Sonic Has Nothing on Me

So simply put, I’m kind of basic. I LOVE the ocean water from Sonic. It’s always too sweet for me, but I love getting it. So when it was time to start thinking of light, bright, refreshing cocktails for the summer, that was the first thing that came to mind.

So I did what any sensible drunk would do. I went to Sonic, bought 3 of them, and then went to the liquor store. I made sure I got everything that I would need to make an elevated, more well balanced version. I wanted it to be better and somehow lighter, so that anyone could have 2 or 3 of them while sitting on the patio or by the pool.

So to that end, I ended up with a beautiful hurricane glass of this brilliant, crystal blue liquid that reminded me of looking in to the water off the dock in the Cayman Islands. It’s like everything that a blue hawaiian should be.

Lost Hawaiian

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Don Q or Bacardi rum

  • 1 oz. Rumhaven Coconut rum or Malibu

  • .5 oz Blue Curacao

  • .25 oz lime juice

  • 1 dash fee brothers orange bitters

  • top with sprite

  • garnish with a slice of orange

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients aside from sprite in a shaker tin with ice.

  2. Shake aggressively. The aim is not just to dilute, mix, and chill here. We are aiming to bust up the ice to make smaller pieces reminiscent of sonic ice in size.

  3. Pour the contents of the shaker, ice and all, into a tall hurricane glass

  4. Top with sprite or other sweet, lemon-lime soda

  5. Garnish with an orange slice
