Fall In Manhattan
The Fall in Manhattan is an Autumn twist on one of my favorite, go-to sippers: The Manhattan.
Traditionally, the Manhattan is a whiskey drink done with a ratio of 2 ounces whiskey, one ounce of sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes of bitters. This variation splits the bourbon with Laird’s Applejack. The applejack has a sweet and warm element to it that just really adds a fantastic dimension to the drink.
For the bourbon, I use a nice oaky bourbon. I have my own blend that I oak myself, but for this cocktail a nice double oak like Woodford Reserve Double Oak would work well. This adds a nice woodiness to the drink.
This is where we vary a bit more. I use an ounce of sweet vermouth and an ounce of a chilled, mulled cider that you can find the recipe for here. This really elevates the deep fruitiness of the drink and adds spices and layers to the drink.
Finally, I use Dashfire Apple Bitters and Fee Brothers orange bitters to finish off the drink. This rounds out the drink with flavors and aromatics that really just highlight the love of Fall that this drink represents.
