Basic Syrups

Syrups are one of the most fundamental things that you can master in order to level up your cocktail game. They are an easy way to add a ton of flavor to a drink while also adding the necessary sweet balance that most often require.

In this post, I will cover the basic syrups that will often be used in most bars. Specialty and niche syrups will be listed on a separate post. The instructions for all of these will be the same. Simply combine the ingredients in a pot, bring to a boil, stir to dissolve, and then cool and store.

Basic Syrups

Simple Syrup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/2 cup sugar

Heavy Syrup

  • 2/3 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup water

Demerara or Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 1/2 cup demerara or brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup of water

Honey Syrup

  • 2/3 cup honey

  • 1/3 cup water
