Orgeat Syrup

Pronounced “orzhat”, this sweet and milky liquid is a staple of the tiki cocktail genre. Originally made from grains, this insanely delicious syrup is now almost exclusively made with almonds.

Most famously used in the Mai Tai, orgeat usually has a beige or golden color. Many recipes involve soaking almonds, blending, straining, etc. but this is honestly not necessary anymore. All these steps are essentially the same processes that one would go through to make almond milk. So, just buy almond milk and use that to make your orgeat. You’re welcome.

Due to many people having nut allergies, it is worth noting that there are a couple substitutions that can be made. If you wish to avoid the nuts but want it to have the same milky consistency and almond flavor, you can sub out the almond milk for oat milk and the almond extract for imitation almond flavor.
