Bend and Snap

This delicious cocktail was made for a wedding at Walton Arts Center. The bride had specifically requested that her drink be made with vodka, be pink, and taste like Watermelon Sour Patch Kids. I ended up loving the flavor and color so much that I reused it for our Broadway run of Legally Blonde.

What this meant to me was that she wanted it to taste like artificial watermelon and citric acid. So watermelon pucker and lemons.

The color was the tricky part to get right. I did not want to use artificial colors or food dyes. So, I needed to preserve the integrity of the drink while also getting a beautifully vibrant pink color. Fortunately, hibiscus has a fantastic, citrus-like flavor about it and a deep red color. Couple that with the cloudy nature of lemon super juice and you have a delicious, candy-pink color. The bride loved it and we sold out so early, I had to hurry up and make a second, 5-gallon bucket.
