Chocolate Strawberries

That is the idea behind this cocktail that I made for Pretty Woman. This cocktail is a little involved, as it involves a bit of work in making the syrup. The payoff is definitely worth it though.

The ingredients may seem odd but each has a specific purpose. The coffee helps to boost the flavor of the chocolate in the bitters and whiskey. The syrup is built to fully convey the intricate flavors of a strawberry. The flavor breakdown of a strawberry is sweet, fruity, slightly acidic, and floral. Simply creating a strawberry syrup would lose the acidity and floral notes.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Whiskeysmith Chocolate whiskey

  • .5 oz Coffee Liqueur (Oak & Bean or Mr. Black)

  • 1 oz Strawberry & Rosé Syrup

  • 2 dashes Cocoa Bitters

Syrup Ingredients

  • .5 cups Sugar

  • .5 cups Water

  • 1 cup Strawberries

  • .5 cup Rosé

  • .25 tsp Rose water

Instructions

Syrup:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and rosé. Heat to dissolve sugar then reduce to about a cup.

  2. Add strawberries and return to a boil. Cut the heat once it is boiling and set aside to infuse until mostly cool.

  3. Strain into a storage container and add rose water.

  4. Store in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Cocktail:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a shaker tin and fill with ice.

  2. Shake vigorously for 20-40 seconds.

  3. Strain into a martini or manhattan glass. Garnish a fanned strawberry and serve. Enjoy!
